We partner with the top 25 largest school districts serving kids ages 0–12 in California

Schools are often the first place caregivers turn when their child is struggling. Many have dedicated staff, but schools shouldn’t have to be the sole source of support for families.

That’s where BrightLife Kids can help. We’re proud to be partnered with 40+ County Offices of Education, 200+ school districts, and 270+ schools across California.

These partnerships expand vital access to free behavioral health support for students and families — lifting some of the burden that school staff carry along the way.

A letter from the California State Superintendent

The California Department of Education (CDE), in collaboration with the California Health and Human Services Agency and the Department of Health Care Services, recognizes BrightLife Kids as an essential partner for schools. They not only approve of our program, but also encourage educators to promote our services and incorporate our high-quality behavioral health coaching into their existing wellness supports.

BrightLife Kids is a wonderful resource for families and students. It's an accessible tool that families can use — to help with kids who need behavioral support and those who simply need someone to speak with on a regular basis. This is such a vital resource for our families to access! We recognize that students and families need support, not just with the learning aspect of school, but social, emotional, and behavioral as well. The support BrightLife Kids is providing to students 0-12 years old and to their parents/caregivers is beyond amazing! I'm grateful that a program like this exists for families in our school and the whole state.

FAQs

Is BrightLife Kids really free?

Yes. Coaching through BrightLife Kids is 100% free for every California child ages 0–12 and their parents or caregivers. The state of California has fully funded this program, which is why it’s free for families.

Note that coaching is not therapy. Therapy is not included as part of the free BrightLife Kids coaching program. Therapy is recommended for kids who require close monitoring for safety reasons, have been struggling for a long time, or have more complex challenges that are significantly impacting their day-to-day life. The cost of therapy may be lower if it is covered by insurance. If you have insurance and therapy is recommended for your child, we can help you identify resources in your area.

Will BrightLife Kids always be free?

The partnership between BrightLife Kids and the state of California will last for several years — and the program will be free to every California family with kids ages 0–12 for the length of that partnership. The California Department of Health Care Services is working to extend BrightLife Kids beyond that time.

Is there a limit to how many coaching sessions a family/child can have?

No, there’s no limit to how many sessions a family can have. That said, BrightLife Kids is designed to be a short-term support system — our goal is to teach kids and their families the skills that they need now, so they are empowered to help themselves in the future. Sessions usually happen once a week, but it can vary based on the child’s needs.

How long are the coaching sessions?

Coaching sessions are typically 30 minutes long and held online over Zoom.

How long can kids and families access services?

For as long as you need it! There is no limit to a family’s access to services. Parents and caregivers can start by reading blogs, browsing the website, or start with live, private coaching with their child. If guidance and referrals from our Coach Specialists is needed, we can help you access services in your community. We know kids and situations change all the time, so families are welcome to start coaching, transition out, and come back when a new challenge arises.
