# Building emotional skills and communication together

Your school-age child is probably starting to name the emotions they feel. They can understand and follow (or try to bend!) rules. They’re also in class or at school for hours at a time, learning academics, boundaries, and social skills.

At this stage, coaching usually becomes more of a three-way partnership between the caregiver, the child, and the coach. Kids can express how they feel and what they’re going through. They can try activities and learn skills. Caregivers do the vital work of practicing tools at home between sessions. Our coaches support both you and your child as you manage the everyday ups and downs.
